Claes Oldenburg (Claws Oldenburg)
Valkömmen! My Name is Claes Oldenburg. I was born in Stockholm, Sweden on January 28, 1929. My family moved around a lot and in 1936 I moved to Chicago. I attended Yale from 1946 to 1950 in New Haven, Connecticut. From 1952 to 1954 I went back to Chicago and enrolled at the Art Institute of Chicago.
I married my first wife Patty Mucha in 1960. I was married to her from 1960-1970. I then married Coosje Van Bruggen in 1977. Coosje helped me in with my art. We created the "Dropped Cone" on top of a shopping center in Cologne, Germany in 2001. Sadly my wife died on January 10, 2009 due to breast cancer.
I've had artwork on many exhibits including the show in 1964 Venice Biennale. My art style would be considered POP ART. Some of my most famous sculptures includE: "Clothespin", "Typewriter", "Needle, Thread, and Knot", and "Floor Cake."

Pop Art
The Pop Art movement began in the mid 1950s in Britain and the late
1950s in America. It is an art style that focuses on everyday
objects, not mythology and history as many earlier paintings did. Most
pop artists began their careers in the advertising field so they would
have experience making ordinary objects seem extraordinary. It has
now become one of the most recognizable styles of modern art.
