Greetings! My name is Maya Lin. I am a American architect and sculptor. I was born Oct 5, 1959 in Athens, Ohio. Most of my work is inspired by honoring courage and bravery. I have made a monument for the civil rights movement, the military with one of my most famous pieces being the “Vietnam Veterans Memorial." This piece shows names of people that have died in the Vietnam war. This is just a few things about me.

Philosophy:
When I was 21 my design of a Vietnam War Monument won 1st prize and was then built in National Mall in Washington D.C. I was inspired by nature and objects that resembled natural formations. I received a bachelor's degree at Yale for architecture and sculpture. One of my most famous pieces of art called the “Wave field.” It was inspired by the small rolling waves out in the ocean.
