Faith Ringgold
Profile: Hi, my name is Faith Ringgold, but my birth name is Faith Jones. I am an African American and my birthday is October 8, 1930. I was born in New York City, New York and am still living there today. I am 87 years old currently. I got my degree at City College in New York. I create civil rights pictures that usually have families in them and I also create narrative quilts. I was born during the great depression and a time of segregation, so that made me want to bring justice to my pictures and my way of life. I have pieces located at 4 museums. I am also a children's book author and illustrator.

About my art:
I associate the use of cloth with women's work and the medium of quilting resonates with the history of slavery. I express my feminism and being an African American in the materials I use. I paint and also write elaborate text on fabric ground as well.
