Toulouse Lautrec
Salutations! Greetings, my name is Toulouse Lautrec. I was born in Albi, France on November 24, 1864 and I died on September 9, 1901. I died of Alcoholism and syphilis, an STD. At the age of 12 I broke my left leg and at the age of 14, I broke my right leg. My legs never healed correctly causing me to grow only to 4ft 8in. I was a curious looking man, short on stature and walking with a severe limp. I spent most of my time in bars and dance halls, so most of my art comes from the scenes found in those places. |
I had a nervous breakdown in 1899. My mother left me in 1899 to go to Paris and committed herself to a sanitarium. Because of this, I suffered a nervous breakdown, and started living a bit wild. |
FRIENDS AND ARTISTS THAT INFLUENCED ME:
Edgar Degas Vincent van Gogh Georges Seurat
ABOUT MY ART:
I was an artist during the POST-IMPRESSIONIST era. What post-impressionist means this was a group of people that turned against the Impressionist style to create a new focus on their own feeling, spirit. This style continued until about the 1920's. The artists during this time used a more simplified palette, a thicker application of paint, a heavy expressive line, and reduced forms to basic shapes.

During my time as a painter there were lots of people that were famous such as- Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, and Victor Hugo, famous author of Les Misérables and Notre-Dame de Paris, and André Derain, French Painter that was born in 1880.
