Groeten! Salutations! I am Maurits C. Escher. I was born in 1898 in Leeuward, Holland. At age 24 I enrolled at a school for architecture. I soon after decided I was more interested in printmaking
Around 1922, I moved to Italy to paint the country landscape. I liked making this more dramatic by using vivid contrasts of black and white.
When I left Italy, I became interested in a little something called "mental imaginary". Metamorphasis was my favorite theme to use. I died in 1972 at age 74.

I was technically a part of the Surrealism/Modern art movement, but I'm not much for falling into a group, so I don't want to be considered as taking part in any art movement ever. Too mainstream for me.
"Are you really sure that a floor can't also be a ceiling?"
"He who wonders discovers that this in itself is wonder."
"Only those who attempt the absurd will achieve the impossible. I think it's in my basement... let me go upstairs and check."
Things in the world were chaotic during my life. I lived and worked through World War 1 and 2. Luckly, it never had much of an effect on my life or work.
