Personal Profile:
Hello! My name is Frank Stella. I was born in Malden, Massachusetts, to parents of Italian descent. My father was a gynecologist, and my mother was an artistic housewife who attended a fashion school and later took up landscape painting.
After attending high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, where I learned about abstract modernists Josef Albers and Hans Hofmann, I then attended Princeton University, where I majored in history and met Darby Bannard and Michael Fried. Early visits to New York art galleries fostered my artistic development, and my work was influenced by the abstract expressionism of Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline. I moved to New York in 1958, after my graduation. I am one of the most well-regarded postwar American painters still working today. And I am known for creating my abstract paintings.

About my art:
After time, I went on to create increasingly complicated art that seemed to follow a nature of progression of dynamism, tactility and scale. My college professors, painter Stephen Greene and art historian William Seitz introduced me to New York art, which ended up shaping my earliest aesthetics. I became very enthusiastic about line work and symmetry.
