Edouard Manet (Ed-vard man-nay)
Bonjour! My name is Edouard Manet. I was born in a big city of Paris, France on January 23,1832. At a young age I was very fascinated by painting. I went to an art school after many years of hearing my parents lecture of how they were disappointed in me. It was my uncle who encouraged my art dream. I went to the school and studied the Old Masters of Europe; which included Goya, Bürer, daVinci, Raphael, and many others.
I started studying under Thomas Couture, learning the basics of drawing and painting. For years I would sit for hours and would copy the works of the great masters. After learning about my dream I lived it. I traveled through Germany, Holland, and Italy to be inspired by artist like Frans Hals, Diego Velazquez, and Francisco Goya. I was influenced by Dutch and especially Spanish paintings of the 17th century.
I finally was able to open my own studio. I succeeded in realism which was the style at the moment but my work was missing something. I decided that I, along with many other artists, preferred Impressionism and we started the Impressionistic style. I used everyday scenes like singers, street people, gypsies, and beggars. My goal was to inspire others and hopefully I have accomplished that. I was laid to rest, April 30, 1883.

MY ART:
I began that most artists, painting life and people in a very realistic style. It was what the public wanted. The beginning of my career was just that, REALISM.
I, as a painter, soon grew tired of satisfying other people and began painting to please myself. I wanted to paint the light that the sky created, the breeze that I was able to feel, perhaps, if I dared, sounds! Of course, the public stopped buying my work, money became tight and my art was ridiculed. But I was inspired and I never gave up following this new passion. I wanted to give my viewer an impression of the "moment" that I was capturing in my new work.
Soon, other painters began to copy my style and we were soon called the IMPRESSIONISTS. I am known as the creator of this art movement.
