Personal Profile:
Hello. My name is Franz Kline. I was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on May 23, 1910. My childhood was a mess. My mother and father had a very complicated relationship. And at the age of 7, my father committed suicide. My mother later remarried and sent me to an institution for fatherless boys. I called it "the orphanage". I wanted to make it big, so I had to start out small. I started out as a cartoonist for my high school newspaper and got to attend Boston University's School of Art. That's when my career took off.
I traveled to other places like New York and London to study art. When I got back to New York, I was forced to take odd jobs such as painting murals in bars and sold illustrations to magazines. It began to get better when I switched to a more abstract technique. I started succeeding. My work still sells for 10's of thousands of dollars.

About my art:
I was apart of the abstract expressionist movement in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Abstract expressionism is a post–World War II art movement in American painting, developed in New York in the 1940s. It was the first American movement to achieve international influence and put New York City at the center of the western art world. I am best known for my large black and white paintings, I use bold brushstrokes of paint that sweep over the canvas, but in a controlled way.
