About Me:
Personal Profile:
Hello my name is Yousuf Karsh, I was born in Mardin, Turkey, on December 23, 1908. Sadly my life came to an end on July 13, 2002 when I was in Boston, Massachusetts.
I am an Armenian-Canadian photographer, I first started out by surviving the Armenian Genocide and becoming a refugee in Canada. Finally by the 1930’s I became a well-known photographer of significant people. I did have to travel a lot to capture all the people I took portraits of, including Albert Einstein, Winston Churchill, and Ernest Hemingway.

About my Art:
I am a portrait photographer, I have traveled with my equipment to capture some of the most important, famous people during my time. Whether the people smiled, looked up, or posed, they were able to see themselves through the way I looked at them through my lens. Hopefully, they loved the photos that I captured.

During my lifetime:
During the time I was establishing my photography career, the Great Depression and Stock Market crashed in the 1920's. People were losing money, banks were closing, unemployment went up and more. I was lucky and honored to be able to capture JFK’s portrait in the 1960's. I decided to take portraits of the more well-known people because Hollywood flourished and entertainment was rising.
